Directly on Laugavegur, the highly revered shopping district and the heart of Reykjavik’s cultural center, the Alda Hotel is a picture perfect snap shot of the inviting hospitality you will find when visiting the capitol city. Optimally located at the upper portion of the famous shopping strip, the atmosphere around Alda Hotel is somewhat quieter than the rest of the street and can make for a relaxing getaway from the grand tour of all Iceland has to offer you.
Alda Hotel’s style would properly be described as trendy and hip. This tranquil oasis in the heart of the bustling shopping days and party nights along Laugavegur blends in nicely with its artistically designed surroundings. This boutique hotel offers upscale looks and down to earth comforts within its walls. The traditional greyscale aesthetic is tastefully interrupted with splashes of color from local artists in framed art, free form murals among other appropriate artistic installations. Just a short walk down the street to the flashing all night party, these cozy quarters will be a welcome restoration to harmony when you return.
The rooms vary in size and shape, offering a new experience each and every time you stay at the Alda Hotel. The Single Rooms and Double Rooms are every bit as luxurious as the Deluxe Rooms and Family Rooms, the latter offering a bit more room that the former. The Queen Suites and King Suites grant even more space with their seating areas and larger bathrooms. The Attic Rooms, Alda Attic, and Alda Suite are all on the fourth floor and offer access to a shared balcony where you can take in the view of Reykjavik and its surroundings.
All rooms offer bathrobes and slippers for your comfort. Coffee and tea-making facilities are in every room and you can sit back and enjoy watching the television or surfing the wifi. Each bed is fitted with fine Egyptian cotton sheets for the most comfortable nights’ sleep. There are no land lines in the hotel rooms. Each room comes with a cell phone for your use while staying at the hotel.
Alda Hotel offers Android smartphones for each room. Local calls and 4G data rates are covered by this phone and it comes with friendly local apps that will assist you while you are out and about in Reykjavik. You can use the phone for so much more than simple conversation. It is available for you to navigate around town, find local restaurants, book tours, and so much more.
As would be expected of a trendy establishment such as Aldo Hotel, it has a wonderful restaurant called “Brass Kitchen and Bar”. There you will find fare fit for kings and beggars alike. Local delicacies and international favorites, you will eat well at Brass Kitchen.
A surprising but welcome inclusion is an in-house barber. Take a few minutes out of the hectic schedule and relax into the comfortable barber chair and allow professional experts to trim your beard or give you a whole new look.

Most were happy with the atmosphere and the hotel’s location on the “quieter” end of the strip while some guests were not particularly happy the location being a short walk from the bus stop.
